There are two species (German and Roman) of chamomile plant which are widely used in aromatherapy and their therapeutic properties are very similar. The Chammomile oil is extracted by steam distillation method from the flowers of German chamomile and from the whole plant of Roman chamomile. The Oil of the former species is deep blue and the aroma is sweet, herbaceous, and like strong honey, with fruity undertones. The oil of the latter is paler and a greener blue, the aroma being sweet herbaceous, and like tea.

Uses of Chammomile Oil
Conjunctivitis, Sore eyes: Add two drops to 2 teaspoon (10 ml) of cooled, boiled water, Soak cotton pads in the solution and place on the eyes.
Aches and Pains Hyper-activity :Blend with a carrier oil and massage into the affected area or add to the bathwater. Add a few drops to the bathwater, or use in a vaporizer.
Boil : Apply a small cotton compress which has been soaked in hot water and chamomile and leave on until it cools.
Dermatitis, Eczema : Blend with a carrier oil and massage into the affected area or blend with a perfume-free cream and apply regularly.
Minor skin infections : Try a chamomile aromatherapy bath before bedtime.
Insomnia : Drink chamomile tea before going to bed. Use oil in a vaporizer or sprinkle a few drops on your pillow.
Caution:
Chammomile oil is a mild emmenogogue; avoid during Pregnancy.
